About

Dr. Mariel Miller

I am a second-generation Canadian, born in Treaty 6 territory and raised as a settler on unceded Algonquin, Anishinabek territory. Now, I am privileged to work and play on the traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən peoples.

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies at the University of Victoria and Associate Director of the Technology Integration and Evaluation Research Lab. My research sits at the intersection of educational psychology and educational technology, with a focus on self-regulated and socially shared regulation of learning in technology-mediated contexts. My work examines how learners and teams regulate cognition, motivation, emotion, and social interaction as they navigate complex digital learning environments, including those increasingly shaped by generative AI. A former Director of Technology Integrated Learning at the University of Victoria, my work brings together theory-driven research, applied educational development, and experience in institutional learning technology initiatives.
